After many years of planning the redevelopment of Sancta Maria College has just begun and this is a source of great joy to the greater Sancta Maria College community. The College is on the cusp of being transformed into a modern, ‘state of the art’ educational facility that will serve the needs of Ballyroan, Rathfarnham, Knocklyon and much further afield long into the future and serve those needs in a manner that is appropriate to the parents, girls and community of this beautiful part of South Dublin in twenty first century Ireland.

The refurbishment and the expansion of the College will result in an educational establishment that will accommodate up to 750 pupils, including associated site works to provide additional ball courts and parking facilities and this work, as you know, had just begun.

The work involved will include the construction of new single and two storey teaching blocks, accommodating general classrooms and specialist teaching spaces, a new full size, multi sports, P.E. hall, extension of the musical and drama hall, refurbishment of the 1970’s building and the demolition of the existing 1847 classroom accommodation, known as the long corridor.

The redevelopment provides all of the facilities required of a modern learning and teaching environment, fully compliant with the Department of Education and Skill’s curriculum requirements and will be fully accessible for all users.

Landscaping of the site has been carefully considered to compliment the unique setting of the school within the Sancta Maria College campus established by the Sisters of Mercy for educational and recreational use and shared with Ballyboden St Enda’s GAA club.
While the P.E. Hall will be provided by the Departmnt of Education and Skills, (DES), there are significant additions and improvements to the plan that are funded by the DES but which have been included with a view to providing an enhanced facility that befits twenty first century students, parents and the wider community.

The provision of a Concert Hall as well as a P.E. Hall is not the norm in DES school projects and we consider ourselves very fortunate to be allowed this luxury. Both of these elements of the project will result in an upgraded facility that will allow the Arts and Sports to flourish at Sancta Maria College both during and outside of school hours.
