As part of the celebrations for 1916, on Monday 7th March, all secondary schools in the country were invited to go to Croke park to receive a flag and a copy of the proclamation, presented by the Thomas Meagher Foundation. Sancta Maria College was represented by three 5th year history students, Gillian Doyle, Courtney McManus, Reailtin Walsh and two teachers Mr Noonan and Ms Fogarty. Over 6,000 students and teachers defended on Croke Park where Ryan Tubridy acted as MC and they were addressed by President Michael D. Higgins. We now have a new flag and proclamation to proudly display in our school on proclamation day on Tuesday 15th March. Watch out in the coming weeks for more details of our celebrations of the 1916 rising.
