Spiritual Development
At Sancta Maria College your daughter’s spiritual development is recognised as a key element of her overall development, essential to her wellbeing and necessary to ensure her growth into a person with a deep understanding of her spiritual nature and a capacity to critically reflect and to draw on her spiritual resources, built up in her home and during her teenage and young adult years at Sancta Maria College.
Social Justice
We provide a broad and holistic education and strive to raise awareness amongst the school community of the issues of social justice, at home and abroad, and world peace. In keeping with our ethos, we strive to encourage, and to model for our students, our Christian calling to service and the need to give something back.
Teaching and Learning
Teaching and Learning are prioritised at Sancta Maria College. We provide a broad and comprehensive curriculum, as laid down by the Department of Education and Skills, delivered by staff members who are highly qualified, competent and deeply committed to ensuring the provision of a quality teaching and learning experience for all of our students.
The quality of delivery is constantly reviewed and self-evaluation, at all levels, leads to early identification of areas in need of improvement. This is followed by swift remedial action with a view to addressing any areas of weakness identified in the system.
At Sancta Maria College we are fully conversant with the most up-to-date research and thinking in the field of education and build them into the decision making and evaluation processes.
Links with Parents
Sancta Maria College works closely with parents. We welcome parental involvement and your feedback is critical for the self-evaluation process. We have a highly effective Parents Association which plays a key role in many aspects of College life.
World of Work
At SMC we keep abreast of developments in the world of work, and the interface between the world of education and the world of work. Is what is being provided for your daughter at SMC going to adequately prepare her to enter a rapidly changing and developing world where transferable skills are essential and where your daughter will be required to adapt and change course on many occasions throughout her working life? This is a question that you, as a parent, must ask and we have a responsibility to ensure that the answer will always be ‘Yes, it is’. Should you feel the need to raise this question with me, personally, as Principal of Sancta Maria College, please feel free to e-mail me at gkennedy@sanctamariacollege.com
Extra – Curricular Activities
We provide a broad range of extra-curricular activities and encourage all of our students to become involved in their chosen area of interest.
Pastoral Care
We have a highly effective Pastoral Care System and highly developed support structures for our students.
Guidance and Counselling
We also place a very high value on the importance of adequate Guidance and Counselling for our students and the quality of service available is of the highest standard.
Redevelopment Project
Sancta Maria College is about to turn the sod on our very extensive Redevelopment Project. Many years in the planning, and finally about to become a reality, SMC will, please God, open the doors to two, new, ‘state-of-the-art’ classroom/specialist room wings, a large new physical education hall and a completely refurbished current building in 2016. The development will proceed over the next two-years, in two separate phases, and will do so with minimum disruption to school activities during that two year period. Refurbishment of the current building will be a summer project in 2015 and 2016.
